United Kingdom british travel Concierge Travel to Britain England Scotland Wales Ireland Interview
Name of your website?

Concierge Travel to Britain, England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland

Your name?

Katharine Lancy CTC

Your Location (city, etc)

Wilmington

Please give us a short summary of your website?

The focus of my website is to advertise my ability to customize travel to Britain to a degree not usually found in this industry. I sell travel to any part of the UK utilizing any theme or list of requirements and focusing on the use of public transportation.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

Partly just to advertise my abilities at British Travel selling but also to encourage the use of public transportation as the smartest and most cost effective way to travel "your way".

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

My first website was just Swanton Travel by name. I later realized that adding the name British Travel greatly enhanced the clarity of what I did to the casual observer. It became better targeted.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

I was living in the town of Swanton in Vermont in the US. Then the above paragraph applies.

What makes it different from other, similar offerings?

The solid experience in and emphasis on public transportation travel in Britain.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

Keep it for income.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

Disadvantages such as 9/11 and the weak dollar/pound ratio don't help but I'm happy to say that I am doing quite well.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

Probably I would use pages to demonstrate specific examples of the kind of thing I can do. It's a hard concept for most people to follow sometimes.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

I think so.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

9/11 British pound vs dollar ratio Terrorism

What has been your biggest challenge?

Because what I do is quite different, explaining it in a way everyone will clearly understand has not been easy.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Pay per click

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

Mainly in the amount of technology I need to learn and practice.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

It was originated as Swanton Travel in 1993 and changed to Swanton British Travel Service LLC in 1999. I have no plans to discontinue what I do

How did you get your experience for this job/website?

I traveled 3-4 times a year for many years. I did not take the usual travel agent fam trip. I took a rail pass and traveled on over 75% of the system and learned the best bus links from personal experience. It was fun!

What is your website address?
