Please give us a short summary of your website?
Our website offers LUXURY accomodation in Nikolaev. With the upcoming relaxation in European visa regime it also offers LUXURY accomodation in a Spanish villa. The website owner Oksana and her English husband met through a SMALL Nikolaev agency also mentioned on our site.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
We heard so many bad news stories about East meets West that we thought a TRUE good story would make an welcome change.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
We launcnched our site about a year ago when we had finished a total renovation of our apartment in Nikolaev.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
We thought the travel of people between Europe and Ukraine would increase dramaticaly (and it has) so we picked that theme for our title.
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
Our's is a small family site that benefits my family in Nikolaev.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
We intend/hope our site will grow from recomendations.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
I think we meet people through our site and travels and that is a reward in it's self. Success is not always about money but the life experiences you get for free.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
I think we would try to encourage more people from Europe to come to Ukraine.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
No we could not cope we would have to employ more staff in Nikolaev.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
None really. with the local family knowledge/ friends in Nikolaev things have gone ok.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Getting money to Ukraine ON time. Just like getting parcels to Ukraine!
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
We have found small slips of paper under the windscreen wipers of cars gets visitors.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
Keeping things up to date takes time we did not expect.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
We have run it for 2 years now. We will see which way it goes and maybe go with the flow so to speak.
When will Ukraine join the EU & what effects will this have.
I think Ukraine has fantastic investment potential and will join BEFORE Turkey. The cost of everything are rising BUT wages should follow as the country 'levels' with Europe. I hope the cultural contact will make the people of Nikolaev smile to strangers more! I hope politicians donn't turn to fighting because once that starts the 'scars' are deep and a few generation will be needed to pass to forgive.
