Rooms in Scotland Interview

By Interviewer at 08/24/07 16:08

Name of your website?

Rooms in Scotland

Your name?

Niall Buchanan

Your Location (city, etc)

Fort Augustus

Please give us a short summary of your website?

Accommodation directory with over 900 hotels, hostels, bed and breakfasts, guest houses and self catering properties in Scotland. Also features travel guides, castle information and whisky distillery links to help plan your trip in Scotland.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

I currently work in a B&B in Scotland and handle the online advertising for the business. After searching the internet for appropriate sites i found many of them to be poorly designed and outdated. I though i could do better than most of the sites available and so set about doing exactly that.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

My first website was launched last summer and it promoted the B&B that i currently work for.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

I drew up a list of keywords associated with accommodation in Scotland and after eliminating those for which the domains were already taken i managed to find Rooms in Scotland. I have since gone on to purchase several "Rooms in" sites as i look to expand my accommodation offerings

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

The eventaul goal is simple..Become the biggest and best accommodation directory for scotland!

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

Right now the time outweighs the money i am earning but since i have only been in business for 12 months this is acceptable for me. There has been progress in that i am now starting to see the business grow and make profit. I believe that to achieve success you have to be committed to spending a large amount of personal time and be patient for your efforts to be rewarded.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

I think i would probably outsource several areas of my website development. There are so many areas to deal with in running a website and it would be good to have some expert help to add several features such as xml and php into my site.

What has been your biggest challenge?

The biggest challenge i have had is getting traffic to my site, you can spend countless hours designing the perfect site but without traffic it counts for very little.

What is your website address?
