Please give us a short summary of your website?
Las Vegas is famous for enormous, extravagant casinos, free flowing alcohol and a wide variety of entertainment geared towards adults. UniqueLasVegasTravel lists accommodation, attraction, guides etc. for Las Vegas.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
Las Vegas has always intrigued me, I don't know why.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
August 2007, it was bctravelguides.com
How did you decide on a name for your website?
I wanted at a url that was SEO friendly, because las vegas is so competitive there are a lot of vegas urls out there.
What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?
Simplicity, a lot of other sites on vegas are difficult to navigate.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
earn passive income from GoogleAds
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
Because my site is new, I haven't seen a return on my investment of time and money.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
Eventually I'd like a custom CMS, but at this point I have to settle for an open source CMS - Joomla.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Yes.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
Coding errors. I'm not a coder so it made errors major headaches for me.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Marketing new sites is the biggest challenge. Until a new site gets out of Google (unofficial) sandbox ranking for important keywords is non existant.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Forum posts, directory submissions, social media sites (digg, reddit).
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
Running a website and keeping your SERP rankings up takes a lot of work.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
UniqueLasVegasTravel has been up about 2 months now. Not enjoying big gains in traffic and income is not an option. I'm confident enough, that with enough time, I will be able to rank well enough for my keywords to see the traffic and income roll in.
What is the best part of running your own website?
When the hard work starts to pay off and you see the traffic (and income) start coming in.
