Please give us a short summary of your website?
Our site is about romantic destinations and the attractions along Michigan's majestic west coast. It is full of scenic getaways for lovers and romantics. A perfect area to reconnect with the one you love.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
I grew up in Michigan and from the time I was a child I always loved traveling this coast. For me it is a soul touching experience to be able to st atop a sand dune and watch spectacular sunstes. The charming inns, located in the sleepy little beachtowns, are where my wife and I prefer to stay. We have visited the wineries, tasted the food and walked the beaches.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
This is our first website. We have another in the works but probably won't launch it until 2010.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
If you have spent any time a all along this coast you understand it's romantic appeal. Thus the name.
What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?
We try to personalize our site with our experiences and photo's. We also try to gather all the information one needs and put it together in one site so people won't have to visit several sites to get info they desire.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
We'll keep it. It has just started to produce a steady income. We have an idea of where we should be in about a year as far as income. We seem to be on track.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
We have a lot of time and effort invested but that is what it takes when you are building a long term business.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
I would not change anything. Yes, we have put in untold hours but it has been a joy and we love doing it. It really is our passion.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
I believe so. It has grown quickly but so far so good. I can't see it ever being a burden.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
No unexpected costs and really no surprises yet.
What has been your biggest challenge?
I don't have real fast keyboard skills. The research and building of pages probably takes me longer than most but, I'm in no hurry.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
When building a website it is all about traffic. Researching the best keywords for your niche help you to build good content. Content is what human visitors and SEO spiders value. Good keywords builds good pages, good pages get ranked high and give you traffic. Good traffic equals good money.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
This has been a labor of love. I expect the site to be over 200 pages near completion. We have over 70 now. At first I thought about 100 would complete it.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
We will keep it forever. This hard work has been simple but not easy. We see the steady progress and know it will work. We use SBI which people can find more about at the about me page on our site, or click on SBI at the bottom of any of our pages.
How long will it take to get to the 200 page mark?
We should be near 200 pages about the middle of next year. It could end up being even more. As I was writting this I just thought of another possible keyword for more pages.
