MYplaceinSICILY Interview

By Interviewer at 07/10/09 06:27

Italy, any: Overall courtyard view at sunset Name of your website?

MYplaceinSICILY

Your name?

Luca Schillaci

Your Location (city, etc)

Catania, Sicily, Italy

Please give us a short summary of your website?

This website describes a self catering vacation rental on Mount Etna, in Sicily. This is let for rent on a weekly basis in July, August and September, and also for long term rentals all the year round (28 days to 3 months). You have plenty of pictures of each room and of the spacios courtyard and garden, a rates and availability page, rental conditions and a guest book with comments left by previous guests. You can also learn more about the area where this house is located.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

I am a tourist guide and I know that an increasing number of people prefer to have a self-catering accommodation when travelling or spending their holidays, partly becuase it is cheaper than staying at hotels and partly because you have your own privacy and can organize your own daily schedule.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

My first webiste was about my activity as a tourist guide in the east of Sicily and about anothert holiday home I let for rent in another location.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

Well, it just... came! I was talking with friends about this project and I was telling them that I wanted to arrange things so that guests felt like this was their own place.

What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?

I REALLY care about giving people what they want: what I want to obtain is that people enjoy their time here and come back for more after being here once, or feel like they would. This is not always the way this sort of things are done in Italy.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

The larger amount of people falling in love with Sicily, the happier I am.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

This website and a couple of other ones are about my job, which is a job I have choosen to do. I come back to Sicily on this specific purpose after studying in the north of Italy. So I will never shut this down: shouldn't this be successful, I will update and change it until I get the attention it deserves.

How happy are you of doing this job?

A lot! This job is definitely my karma!

What is your website address?
