Tapir Travel is an online travel planning and flight booking site.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
To earn an extra income from the web
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
My first website was a Greek Islands and Mainland message board
How did you decide on a name for your website?
My wife and I are animal lovers and we particularly like Tapirs so we thought Tapir Travel would be nice.
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
I did a lot of research and liked the easy user interface and customer service backup options and also the cancellation policy and online security features.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
Keep it for extra income.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
It is still early days as the site is only 3 months old but I will invest any money I make on advertising until the site is achieving the sales level that I would like.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
I would probably develop further travel websites and try to become successful online.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Yes as the site looks after itself although I might have to pay for more band width with my ISP.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
There were some HTML errors on my site which took a lot of time to remedy but I am happy now.
What has been your biggest challenge?
The biggest challenge is getting my site noticed amonst all the competitors out there. I am consistent and am spending a lot of time on promting my site and getting valuable backlinks.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Submitting to directories and writing Articles has improved my search engine position.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
It is a lot harder than I expected to get results but I am determined to suceed.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
Three months to date but will give it a year to see how well it goes.
