Please give us a short summary of your website?
Discoversosua.com is a complete guide for visiting, living and investing in Sosua and the north coast of the Dominican Republic.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
I visited the Dominican Republic for the first time in June, 2007. Since then I have visited seven more times, bought a condo in Sosua and designed this Web Site based on my personal experiences.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
My first Web Site was created in 2000 and it is my present company in the United States. RealtyMartAmerica.com is an Internet based real estate marketing company. We list real estate on the MLS (Multiple Listing Service for a flat fee allowing home owners to list their property for maximum exposure without paying a traditional real estate commission to list the real estate. I am a Licensed broker in Florida, Georgia and Alabama.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
DiscoverSosua.com was the perfect name because not many people have discovered Sosua yet. The site is 6 months old now and still has a ways to go but there are hundreds of photos of new real estate developments, local hotels and resorts, the beaches, and downtown businesses. There is detailed information about real estate, shopping, excursions, local services, and all inclusive resorts.
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
DiscoverSosua.com doesn't focus one one topic. It is truly a complete guide for tourists, investors and those looking for someting new. Our site offers information about the Dominican people, the country's six regions, residency requirements, driving laws, renting a car, maps, U.S. Embassy information, national parks, camping, fishing, Dominican baseball, the economy, videos of the country, video tours, Sosua videos, hotels, real estate, buying property, forming a Dominican corporation, rental property, vacation villas, restaurants, bars, casinos, golf courses, shoppping, local businesses, beaches, attractions, wireless hotspots, Internet cafes, banks, lawyers, medical services, medical precautions, english newspapers, car rentals, taxi service, airlines, bus service, tour companies, health clubs, private schools, universities, Domincan tourist offices, todays weather, important phone numbers, todays news in the Dominican Republic and hundreds of photos of Sosua and Cabarete.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
I plan to start a real estate company in Sosua within the next two years and DiscoverSosua.com will become a great asset in the marketing of the business.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
I've enjoyed the development of the site and look forward to it's continued growth.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
I would hire someone to find great linking partners and would buy the best key words from Google Ad Words. But right now I post a lot on CraigsList.com where it's free!
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
It's about Sosua! How big could it get? After all Noone knows where or what it is
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
None yet!
What has been your biggest challenge?
Going over to Sosua form Florida every month to take pictures, going to the beach and taking trips all over the country to learn about the Dominican Republic. It's been really tough going through the Miami airport and customs every month.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
I made about 2000 discoversosua.com T-Shirts and gave them to bar owners, outdoor cafe waiters, taxi drivers and real estate professionals in the United States and Dominican Republic.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
No! It's more like a hobby than work.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
The site was stared in June,2007. With just a part time effort I am pleased with the results so far. I think it is starting to take shape and provide valuable information for those who love to travel to new destinations.
