Southern California Day Trips Interview

By Interviewer at 07/04/08 23:27

Name of your website?

Southern California Day Trips

Your name?

Gordon Ledgerwood

Your Location (city, etc)

Anaheim

Please give us a short summary of your website?

A collection of things to do and places to see in Southern California. Everything from major attractions to off the beaten path.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

When my son was younger he wanted to go somewhere every weekend. Over the years I discovered many interesting places to take him. The web site documents all the places we visited and is a resource for Southern California families and visitors.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

This was my fist site which was started in May 2005.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

The site is about weekend trips which can be taken in a day. A good search engine friendly name with keywords.

What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?

My site is published from Southern California and has more places and things to do than any other site. Some of my competitor sites are publish from out of state of even out of country.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

Keep the site growing and add more useful information. No plans to sell only to keep improving.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

Having a great time doing the site plus earning money.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

Would like to add user reviews. Improve web design.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

Yes bring it on :)

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

Learning SEO and SEM

What has been your biggest challenge?

Still waiting for it.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

SEO and all that goes with it.

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

Running the site is great fun and I enjoy working on it.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

Starting year four and will keep it going as long as possible.

What is your website address?
