Chistochina Bed and Breakfast Interview

By Interviewer at 07/23/09 12:45

Alaska, any: Chistochina Bed and Breakfast Name of your website?

Chistochina Bed and Breakfast

Your name?

Doyle

Your Location (city, etc)

Chistochina (Gakona post office)

Please give us a short summary of your website?

We offer clean, smoke and pet free atmosphere. We are located in interior Alaska near the Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and trails for hiking, atvs, skiing and snowmaching. The Copper Basin 300 dogsled race is but 2 miles away. We are on the main road from Canada to Anchorage.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

We entered the bed and breakfast business in 1995 and needed some way to inform interested parties in our accommodations.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

I launchd my site in 2000, as I recall. The present site is the original with slight variations.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

The name of our city seemed the best way to link to our bed and breakfast so that is what we used.

What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?

I think our site is colorful, interesting because of the local animals that I have include as well as informative.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

I plan to keep our business as additional income and for income tax purposes.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

We started our business after we retired and used the rooms that our children occupied before the married and left home so there was very little start-up cost.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

I would add newer, more energy efficient appliances and perhaps invest in wind or solar energy to power the business.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

We have limited expansion possiblities so if the demand increase greatly the option would be to increase rates.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

Our greatest cost has been in heating and electricity. Our guests have all be great so we have not had a bad experience in that respect.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Keeping equipment running because of our remoteness. Repairmen are non-existant here.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Getting our name in written article.

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

I didn't realize that once you had a website and had it published that you had to get it promoted.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

I have had the site for about 9 years and as long as I run the B & B I will continue the website.

What is your website address?
